Resumen
Colombia has reached a position as the fourth Latin American country to produce electronic waste, given that, according to information published by the Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability United Nations Uni-versity (2015), in 2014, 252,000 tons of electronic waste were generated in the country, that is the equivalent of 5.3 kilos per person in the year, approximately 6.5 % of the production for all Latin America (3,904,000 t). These data serve as a context to bear in mind that the discussions about the production and management of this type of waste in the country are not a minor issue. Thus, taking into account the above, there is a need to deal with phenomena such as the programmed obsolescence that generates every time a major quantity of residues, but bearing in mind that it gives place to a series of responsibilities that relapse not only into producers and suppliers exclusively, but it’s also an issue that involves the consumers of these products, as an active agent of the post-consumer chain, to ensure proper management of this waste that does not put into risk the environ-ment and the life of all the beings that inhabit it.
