Wetlands, as to areally extended, do not exceed 6 % of the Earth’s surface, but nevertheless are considered biologically important ecosystems globally. Because of its complexity, which is given to them by their peculiar position between aquatic and terrestrial environments, has not been easy classification thereof, and in this sense the use of the approach landscapes, may become a novel proposal and useful in the context of environmental management and optimization of the use of such space systems. In the province of Matanzas (Cuba), the landscapes of wetlands has great theoretical methodological and practical significance, and in this paper the criteria that were the basis for the proposed classification are described, the corresponding mapping and landscape regionalization occurs, all of which constitutes a contribution to the systematization of knowledge accumulated to date and provides a solid basis for decision-making related to environmental planning and land use.
